The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR–National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL) to promote mutual research and development in quantum as well as classical communication technologies.
The collaboration is focused on improving the nation's independence in communication technologies, especially in quantum and classical communications. It will be directed towards improving scientific measurement, standardisation, and the creation of next-generation communication solutions that are future-proof and globally competitive.
Both organisations will, under the agreement, carry out collaborative R&D projects, share research facilities and technical know-how, and conduct research, development, standardisation, and delivery of secure, scalable communication technologies. Academic exchanges, workshops, and attention to intellectual property management to provide fair returns are also part of the MoU.
C-DOT will contribute its knowledge in network protocols, IoT, and quantum communications, while CSIR-NPL will contribute towards measurement science and standardisation.
The collaboration will further enhance academic interaction in the form of lectures, seminars, and collaborative teaching assignments. The two institutes will also seek additional funds for joint research goals.
The MoU was signed by C-DOT's chief executive officer Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay and CSIR-NPL director Prof. Venugopal Achanta, at a function recently attended by top officials of the two organisations.
Dr Upadhyay emphasised the importance of quantum communications for the future of digital infrastructure.
“Quantum communication represents the next frontier in safeguarding data and ensuring the integrity of critical information infrastructure. This partnership with CSIR-NPL is not just a strategic alignment of capabilities, but a commitment to national priorities of self-reliance and technological sovereignty," he said.
"Through this collaboration, we aim to harness the complementary strengths of both institutions to accelerate the development of indigenous solutions that are globally competitive and future-ready.”
