During Alphabet's Q1 2025 earnings call, CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that more than 30% of all code at Google is now written with the assistance of AI. The adoption of AI-generated suggestions by developers continues to rise because now approximately one-third of developers use AI-driven recommendations to modify their code. The significant change happened because of model advancements and the introduction of agentic workflows designed to perform complex multi-step tasks.
Pichai highlighted that the adoption of AI-assisted coding is spreading throughout the company, with customer service teams taking the lead in its use.
The financial performance of Alphabet presented itself through a 12% increase in yearly revenue which reached $90.2 billion. Alphabet achieved a 46% increase in net income which amounted to $34.5 billion at the same time earnings per share reached a 49% growth. During this quarter Google's main advertising segment together with YouTube and Google Cloud services demonstrated consistent growth versus the year before although total revenue dropped slightly from the preceding period. The revenue of Google Cloud experienced a 28% increase because of growing AI and infrastructure product demand.
During the event Pichai praised the ‘state-of-the-art’ Gemini 2.5 Pro model which led all benchmarks and occupied the top spot in Chatbot Arena. The Gemini models have become part of 15 Google products serving more than half a billion users worldwide. New features including Gemini Live and AI-powered camera tools will be introduced on Android and Pixel devices while Google Assistant will get Gemini features during the later half of this year.
Rather than slowing down, Google is ramping up its AI development efforts with initiatives like Gemini Robotics Models, the AI Co-Scientist for research, and the ongoing success of Alpha Fold, which is now used by more than 2.5 million scientists.
With user growth of over 200% for AI Studio and Gemini API, and more than 140 million downloads of Gemini models, Google is clearly centering AI as a cornerstone of its future across products, platforms, and research.
