The Swedish startup Luvly is set to work with the automotive titan Stellantis to evaluate its lightweight, electric flatpack vehicle technology. Luvly stands for Light Urban Vehicle – a small car built for city use. Founded in 2015, this Stockholm-based startup built an ultraefficient ready-to-assemble electric car that could be distributed using flat-pack shipping method.
It's which sometimes dubbed 'the IKEA of EVs' --- the Luvly O weighs less than 450 kilograms and can carry 2 persons up to 90km/h with 80% less energy in production, shipping and distribution compared with standard electric cars. Luvly's patented technology solution is one that brings together a lightweight sandwich composite chassis clear-cut way has energy-absorbing modules for improved safety. Stellantis wants to investigate the technology for possible applications in vehicles of the future.
“We believe that our technology has the potential to revolutionise the way vehicles are designed and built,” Håkan Lutz, CEO of Luvly, told Zag Daily.
“The aim of this partnership is to show that we can deliver on our promises.”
The two companies have signed a year-long commercial agreement, representing an important step forward in the development of innovative and sustainable vehicle technologies by one of the world’s largest automakers.
“The whole automotive industry is waking up to face a world that is rapidly changing in terms of what users expect and demand from products, and some are more alert to this than others,” said Lutz.
“This is the first major commercial partnership with a player as pivotal as Stellantis. If we manage to prove the level of safety and the economics of our platform and Stellantis chooses to adopt it, that is a major thing, not only for us, but for the industry.”
