UniCredit, the leading pan-European commercial bank, and Google Cloud have established a 10-year agreement focused on livening up UniCredit’s digital journey across its 13 core markets. UniCredit under this agreement will receive state-of-the-art technology from Google Cloud that will benefit its new digital platform, improved customer solutions, and operational excellence. These include AI and data analytics tools.

Under the deal, UniCredit is going to move large parts of its technology stack, including legacy systems, onto a Google Cloud secured and scalable environment. By rolling up systems, the 13 banks of UniCredit will be able to increase agility and scale better with the organization, preparing it for growth and market opportunities. This partnership aligns with UniCredit’s digital roadmap, which has cloud architecture clinics that build resilient cloud infrastructure to drive innovation, with focus.

The use of Google Cloud’s AI tools, specifically, the Vertex AI platform, and Gemini models shall allow UniCredit to bring new financial products to the market, optimize its workflows, and improve the customer experience. Major scope of application includes investment banking insights, fighting financial fraud and efficiency in operational processes. The MoU also opens doors for the incorporation of other Google tools, for example the Google Maps Platform to increase interaction with the customers and enhance routines in operations.

“This strategic partnership with Google Cloud is a pivotal step in our strategy to be the bank for Europe’s future,” said Andrea Orcel, CEO of UniCredit. “In line with our single-partner approach for strategic collaborations, we have sought out the best and now we are all in with them in the pursuit of excellence. Google Cloud’s cutting-edge cloud, AI and data analytics capabilities will empower our ongoing digital transformation further enhancing our customer offerings, streamlining our operations, and fostering a new era of data-driven innovation.”

“Partnership with Google Cloud represents a bold move for UniCredit massively advancing our technology footprint in critical areas such as AI, data and virtualized infrastructure across 13 core markets,” said Ali Khan, Group Digital & Information Officer, and UniCredit. “Google Cloud will further enhance the technological innovation we are bringing to core operations and last-mile customer solutions.”

Google Cloud is going to offer in-depth digital professional development for UniCredit employees throughout Europe, providing them with the ability to learn cloud and AI, and reach the bank’s digital capabilities.
